Brussels or Brugge?

I need some advice! If you could only pick one city to visit which would it be? We have two children 6 and 8. We will be spending 4 nights in Paris, 2 in Amsterdam, and 2 in Dusseldorf. What are the pros and cons of each of these cities. Should we do a half day in each? I've heard such nice things about Brugge. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Jennifer

Most people would pick Brugges - it is small , lovely ,and there are canal rides kids might like.
Brussels is an hour away from Brugges, has very good art galleries, a nice main square , the center is easily covered on foot.
If you are driving and have only one day , you may wish to visit Gent instead of Brussels.

I would take Brugge over Brussels any day of the week. Not to knock Brussels, I liked it very much but I really loved Brugge and I think your kids will like it too.

A canal ride is an absolute must. Be sure to visit the cathedral and see the scupture of the Madonna by Michaelangelo. You can climb to the tower in the town square for great views of the city. There's so much more, these are just a few of my faves. Here is a web page with more info:

A half day in either city is way too brief.

Brugge is a must....Brussels is to touristy...just too busy....Brugge is quaint, lots of nice sights, restaurants, canels, windmills, and a great exploring town....one of my favorites in all of Europe...your children will love the homemade chocolates..again amongst the best in Europe...enjy! mikek

I preferred Bruges to Brussels. But I will admit that Bruges is quite touristy too.
