Bruges(Brugge)lovers..new flick with the city as the backdrop throughout
"In the Bruges" starring Ralph Fiennes (who plays the "fiend"
, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason...has rave review in today's L.A. Times...we're going tonight. It's billed as "dark humor"...having been there a few times we always find it fun to see a flick with scenes from any place we've visited.

Just returned from seeing "In Bruges"...hilarious, yet poignant, dark humor throughout, violence is there, but one can get over a few shootings and bloody gore when there are so many laugh lines. The dialogue is a pure gem...and the acting on the part of Farrell, Gleason, Fiennes and Peter Dinklage is a thing of great art. Go see it.
Yes, Bruges(Brugge) is also the star in this flick...the canals, the GrosMarkt, the Bell Tower all play roles, especially the Bell Tower.
Go see it it for yourselves.

The pair joked about wearing matching fedoras as the Irish actor appeared on the show to promote his new movie ‘In Bruges.’
“How much did you pay for that hat?” Letterman said, before going to an ad break. When cameras returned the pair both posed in the matching hats before cracking up with laughter.
In his new movie the ‘Miami Vice’ star plays an Irish hit-man hiding out in Bruges, Belgium, after a job goes horribly awry. Farrell said he spent 10-weeks in the city filming - which he admitted was more than enough.
He said: “It’s a gorgeous city but we were there for 10-weeks and I don’t know if the beauty can sustain you that long!
“It’s very picturesque, it’s a fairytale city but it’s quiet. We got there and it was the middle of winter, by 4 in the afternoon it was pitch dark and nobody was on the streets.
“I thought the plague had hit town.”

True story:
My husband was reluctant to see this movie because when he toured Europe in his 20's, he HATED Bruges. His travel buddies would rhapsodize over it, and he'd comment: "It's a --------."
When I asked him if he wanted to join us on the first part of our trip last summer so that he could see more of Belgium with us, he said, "No, you'll want to go to Bruges, and it's a --------."
If you want to know the word, go see the movie. Colin Farrell repeated the phrase a zillion times, much to the delight of my husband.
My husband hasn't see the travelling companions of his youth in eons, but he's thrilled about the idea of seeing the movie again with them.
And yes, we (the other family members) loved Bruges.

DH and I saw "In Bruges" and, while it had funny lines, it was overall so sad to me, I was teary eyed. I really liked the movie - had started to care about the characters. DH laughed at me, said he is tired of stories about thugs, they were "hit" men, all a buch of bad guys, did not deserve my sympathy, and got their deserved endings. I would see it again. He wouldn't. The scenes of Bruges are lovely.

My wife and I saw "In Bruges" Sunday afternoon. Enjoyed it immensely. Quirky, warped, funny, bloody--and Bruges still looks fine. My wife generally hates films in which the f-bomb is thrown around and there's blood/killing, but she just couldn't stop laughing at the mien, demeanor, and attitudes of the characters--not to mention the out-of-the-blue funny lines.
. Nothing humorous about it. What a waste of talent (and time).

I just booked my 2 night trip to Bruges for June (staying at the recommended Adornes Hotel), so I saw the movie today.
I'm sure Bruges will be much more crowded in June than in the dead of winter, but the city is clearly 'fairytale-like'.
And like many others, I really enjoyed the movie; quirky characters, great dialogue and laugh out loud funny at times. And yes, bloody, but what movie isn't these days?

I also saw this movie tonight. Having been to Bruges I loved the scenery. I did not find it as amusing as some of the posters but thought it was well acted and I liked the levels and connections of the story.
