For most visitors to Ireland, there are no restrictions on importing food.

However, visitors arriving from outside Europe may not bring meat or dairy products or certain exotic live plants. Details are complicated, and vary slightly depending which country you're importing them into. There are usually no restrictions at all on the intra-Ireland land border

The Republic's rules are at www.revenue.ie: Northern Ireland's at http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/tra...rn-ireland.htm

Nuts are just fine.

Nuts, protein bars, and the like are easily found here. Is there a particular reason why you should bring them with you?

Perhaps they want to eat them on the plane, or are allergic to some ingredients and want to make sure they have some without them?

I always bring snacky-bits with me for the plane ride so I don't have to find a shop first thing. Especially for my DH, who suffers from low blood sugar after a flight.

My problem with snack bars is that many of the low-sugar ones contain coconut as a sweetener, and I can't stand coconut. It takes me a while to find some without in the US grocery stores - I can just imagine trying in a strange place
