Brindisi to Salerno

Hi Fodorites, any commentary on methodologies to undertake this trip, we have all day and don't mind how we do it...any thoughts ? WE have to drop a hire car back to the airport.

If you can, stop in Matera!

When you say methodology, do you mean the route itself or lunch stops or something else?

It's about a three and a half hour drive and my route would be via Taranto and Potenza on firstly the E90 and then the E847. The road number then changes to the A3 which runs close to the airport.

You drive through a number of small villages on the way and you should have no trouble finding somewhere that looks good to stop and eat. However, I'm not sure that the car hire place at the airport (it's quite a small airport) stays open very late, so check what's the latest you can drop off your car and work the time backwards from there.

What time of year? This has a huge bearing on the route.

Sorry to piggyback on your post, Marko, but i'm beginning to plan a trip for next May and planning to drive from near Brindisi to Salerno, drop the rental car there, take a boat to Amalfi and a taxi to Praiano, all on the same day. Does this sound do-able? Anyone with experience trying this?

When you say - WE have to drop a hire car back to the airport - do you mean Brindisi again.

If so, and based on having all day (both ways?), I would suggest stopping at Matera going in one direction and Altamura + Alborobello in the other.

If only one direction try to do Alborobello first and then Matera.
