Have you looked into the Golden Well Hotel? We were there 2 years ago and found it to be very lovely--very impressed. Hotel has it's own entrance to the grounds of the Palace which are beautiful! Don't know the rates and can't remember what we paid.

Casa Marcello has a good location, I've stayed in that same area a couple times but in a hotel that wouldn't suit your criteria in decor, even if I guess it is "boutique.", as it is more modern decor.

I stayed at the Hotel Pariz in Prague and loved it (and it has AC with reasonable rates in July because I think rates are reduced then for summer -- they are some time in July, anyway, as that's when I stayed and I got a discount) and their service was excellent. You can get some good rates on their website if you prepay and stay several nights, should be in that budget or close to it if you do that (around 150 euro). It's not real small, though, but I don't think Hotel Palace is exactly what I'd call a boutique hotel, either, and it has over 100 rooms. (Maybe I don't know what a boutique hotel is, but I don't think of a large hotel that's been around for a century in that category). Hotel Pariz is beautiful in Art Nouveau style, so you might consider it if the Palace is your kind of place. The Hotel Pariz is actually smaller. http://www.hotel-paris.cz/

We have also stayed in the Hotel Paris twice and loved the room and hotel. At the time we stayed it was Hotel Pariz. Location is good. Highly recommended and more upscale that the other hotel I suggested. But, we loved both.

Sorry, I just re-read your post, and you say you are looking for old world ambiance. K+K was one of the hotels I considered, but it is a modern hotel, so probably would not interest you.

Just to clarify, maybe the word "boutique" hotel is not exactly right. But we prefer something mid-sized or small if possible. Big hotels can be beautiful, but when I travel I prefer something more intimate -- a place where recongizes you when you come and go. I will look at the suggestions here. Thanks!

The Savic has 27 rooms, and because of the layout of the hotel within a 14th century building it definitely feels like a small property. The door to our room (which was very spacious BTW) was by itself in a short hallway. There is no street-level lobby (other than the reception area), but there are sitting areas on each floor. We loved this hotel and would stay there again.

Thanks! The Savic looks perfect. Unfortunately the only room they have left is $450 per night, which is more than we wanted to spend. I'll keep checking to see if a less expensive room opens up. In the meantime, I've booked Hotel Imperial. Not exactly what I wanted, but most of the hotels recommended here are already booked. I should have planned this trip earlier!
