Non-ficton is my preference. Thanks...

Pas du tout -- almost all of my suggestions are non-fiction. Of the ones I posted, only 6 are fiction. I think most of cigale's are non-fiction as well.

Two fairly recent nonfiction books to add. Both give good insights into French culture. Sorry - I'm not sure about the authors.

Has anyone read any good books about the history of Paris but in French rather than English? I'd like to learn about Paris and improve my French at the same time.

MaisiePlague -

If the English version is any guide you should enjoy (and I'd guess, be challenged by) The Invention of Paris; A History in Footsteps, in the original French, by the radical Paris author and publisher Eric Hazan.

Others for the list

Footprints in Paris; A Few Streets, A Few Lives
Gillian Tindall

That Sweet Enemy; The French and the British from the Sun King to the Present
Robert and Isabelle Tombs
