Bookmark - Tagging
I've noticed a lot of threads recently being topped with the words "bookmark" or "tagging" and the like. The most recent thread being toll booths on the autoroutes in France. This bookmarking, tagging, or topping will bring up the threads in the left hand column when clicking on your name, but could get buried when looking for it several months down the line.
Might I suggest a much easier way to save a thread that you want to refer back to at a later date.
1. Click on the thread title. You will notice in the "address" line it will come up with a 7-digit number. This is the unique number to that particular thread.
2. Once you have identified it in the address line after clicking on the title, select "Favorites or Bookmarks" depending upon the browser you are using. In Internet Explorer, select "favorites" and then "add to favorites."
3. A dialogue box will appear which will allow you to change the name of the bookmark. The default shows up as "Fodor's Travel Guides Forums" which you can then change to the name of the particular thread. In the case above, you could name it "toll booths in France" and then put it in a folder of your choice, or create a folder "France" and put it in there.
I've found this an easy way to store threads that I want to refer back to for upcoming trips.

Putting a thread's URL in your Favorites or Bookmarks is a good idea. But some people have problems managing all their bookmarks/favorites as it is. You can always just e-mail the thread you yourself and then do what you want w/ the info -- save the email or put it in a Word document, or whatever.

Selecting the "e-mail this thread" link at the bottom of a thread doesn't allow you to "then do what you want w/ the info" - because it doesn't e-mail the thread.
It results in a URL being sent to your mailbox. Then you have to sift through your inbox, retrieve the thread text, and deal with it. Both the sending and retrieving are a total waste of time and effort, because doing so puts you back where you started - with a thread in a browser.
If your intent is to save the text of a thread, simply highlight what you want and cut/paste it to a document directly from the web site.
But do make an effort to learn to manage a hierarchy of links - mastering this simple skill will make your life work better.

thanks for the post although I suspect many will continue to top these by taking the easy way out which may be irritating to some.
I do hope this particular thread doesn't degenerate into another "War of the Roses."

I noticed earlier this year when I was preparing for my Swiss trip that a lot of people were "bookmarking/tagging" some of my threads. I certainly didn't mind because it was "topping" them.
There are a lot of Fodorites that are not that computer savvy so maybe this will help then in their trip planning.
I remember on my Italy trip a couple of years ago, I had about 20 pages of cut/paste threads from Fodors.

By the way, right-clicking (rather than left-clicking) on the thread title streamlines the entire process in another way, because the name of the Bookmark/Favorite you're saving defaults to the thread title so you don't have to overwrite "Fodors Travel Guides | Forums" the browser got from the page title.
When you get around to carrying a computer in your pocket, you can travel with all the threads pertaining to your current trip in a file that can be keyword-searched in half a second.
