Booking Airfare from Florida to Florence, Italy

My husband and I are planning to go to Florence for the month of June. We have our accomodations reserved, and I've been looking into flights from Orlando to Florence. Ouch! $1500+ is what I'm finding on Kayak and fly.com! The website "I Dream of Italy" is saying book now - prices to Italy are just going to climb from now on (for travel this summer)? What do you all think? Any suggestions to help us save some money will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you looked into flying into Pisa? It's a bit bigger airport and friends have saved several hundred each by booking flights there instead of Florence...

Have you considered checking out flying into Pisa or Milan instead and then training? The cost may well be less.

Are your accommodations IN Florence? There is train service from the Pisa airport directly to the central Florence train station. If you fly into Florence, you take a bus or taxi into the city.

We are flying into Venice in June and out of Rome in July. I just booked my tickets last Thursday for $1523.00. I had been watching airfares for the same dates and airports for the last two months and they went up from $1245.00 when I first started looking until what I just paid. Two weeks ago the prices were $1444.00.

Most of the research I did said that prices for summer travel will most likely only go up as it gets closer. I also looked at average for my same trip last year and it was right about the same price.

Consider flying first to London and from there you have very cheap flights to Florence or even better to Pisa airport. Consider also Bologna airport as from UK you can find budget flights with Ryanair. Meridiana is the only airline which offers direct flights to Florence (FLR) City Airport from the UK. British Airways has regular flights to Pisa Airport from Gatwick.
