Bologna - Central Location?

How does Bologna rate a place to visit and from which to travel to Florence, Venice, Lake Como?

If all you have is 7 days it does not rate at all. As a matter of facts, even your 3 destinations itinerary looks too much to me. Your first and last day will be more or less spent in arriving and leaving, therefore you will have a bare 5 days, which I would spend in Florence (3 days), venice (1 day) and travelling between the two (1 day).

Good afternoon, Don Alice has some very
good points in not using Bologna as a
home base for visits to other places.
Rail from Florence to Venice is just
under 3 hrs. If you remain in Bologna
it would be 1hr45mins. to Venice....
and trains run from 0940 to 2140 about
9 trains about every hour or two... From Bologna to Firenze would be 1hr and
trains (20),run from 0630 to 2248 mostly on the hour.
Lastly there is only one non-stop from
Bologna to Como and that is the Cisalpino that leaves Bologna at 1757 and arrives in Como SG at 1946.. There
about 30 trains in a day thru Bologna to
Como SG taking about 3hr30min. Which would make this a 7 hour trip and would
not consider it... If you have not picked your hotel in Bologna, check out
the Hotel ROMA, have throughly enjoyed
the hotel and the area in which it is
located. If you need a couple of ristorante recommendations, please write. Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..
the hour
the hour which makes this a viable trip.
Richard.... we'll be there for just one nite in a few weeks. Can you advance just one or two ristorante suggestions?
Center of town... price not important, but don't like "fancy".
Mille grazie!
