I have traveled the Balkans before and love the architecture and energy in places like Zagreb, Sarajevo and of course Istanbul. Of course, not every place I visited was a ‘must-see’. Anyway, I visited the Republic of Macedonia and really liked Ohrid, but did not visit anywhere else. Do you think Bitola and Skopje are must-see destinations or are they not really preserved well-enough? I am not sure if they generally are attractive or whether they just may have some attractive monuments frequently surrounded by too many communist-era constructions. Let me know. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you would consider must-sees, but probably yes for Skopje and maybe for Bitola, given that you are in the area.
Hi,
Just got back from Macedonia, I spent a week all around the country. I'm amused by it's beauty. Previous time went to Ohrid and Bitola. It was good enough. This time I went to Skopje first without any plans, just a booking for a hostel. The staff, especially the girl working there kind of prepared an agenda for my travel. It's funny I know, but she suggested things to do that that sueted me so well. It was out of the tipical touristic areas, so I enjoyed the real atmosphere. I can only say go to Urban Hostel Skopje and let them help you with tours and all. It's free and with such a pleseur that's making me go back there. About Skopje you will be surprised, there are huge changes in that city.
