Bilbao....info please

Hello..I am planning a 3 day trip to Bilbao in March.(Hopefully a day tour to San Sebastian)Was thinking of the Hotel Bilbao Jardines for a close to old town choice..Any imput on this hotel? Reviews seems to be ok.I am not a Museum person so I do not intend to go to any and the Guggeheim will only be from the outside.I prefer to blend in with the locals and see sights off the beaten path.

I was thinking of taxi a taxi to hotel OR if easy the bus...From Plz. Moyua...how would I head to Hotel Bilbao Jardine from there?
Also I will definately need an early morning taxi to airport upon leaving..my flight is at 07:00 A.M.Does anyone know the price of taxi at that time? I suppose its higher because of the hour I will need to leave the hotel. Many thanks..any other imput helpful.

I cannot see how Robert's wife's website answers your question.
Get the hotel to order a taxi if you need it.
here is a link to the airport website giving taxi fares
http://www.aena.es/csee/Satellite/Ae...069//Taxi.html
It is clearly laid out what is what.
If you want to take a bus then here are the routes and fares.

San Sebastian is accessible by bus; the links given above should help.
The Guggenheim is a genuinely remarkable building, not just for its design and construction but also for the way it fits into the landscape, nestling into the river valley so it dominates but doesn't overpower the neighbourhood. The highway from the airport penetrates the steep valley wall by tunnel and then crosses a bridge that seems to almost touch the top of the museum.
If you don't go inside you won't know the half of it. The interior is the belly of the whale, and you can ignore the bewildering contemporary art and spend your time looking for a 90-degree angle. Before computer design it would have been impossible to build. Admittedly you have to pay a substantial admission to look around.

Aside from dining, the attractions of Bilbao are otherwise on a smaller scale. There is an old elevator up one bank, providing a scenic view, and also a peculiar transporter bridge with a clockwork suspended airborne "ferry". You could take the subway to the port, once the centre of early industry, some of it built on the use of salt. However, its urban landscape is mostly rustbelt (which is still, nonetheless, history.) The tourism's guided walking tours are also informative: http://www.bilbaoturismo.net/BilbaoT...-walking-tours

For a brief visit, note the tourist bus:

"From Plz. Moyua...how would I head to Hotel Bilbao Jardine from there?"

If you look at google maps, you'll see that these are less than a mile apart. Google maps also shows various transportation options.

Hi P,

Given your preferences, I suggest staying in San Sebastian.

We had a very nice stay at Hotel Zaragoza Plaza

Enjoy your visit

Really liked the transborder bridge in Bilbo, but I've started visiting the world's stock of them so I may not be sensible about the thing. Search on Bilbobus to find out how to get there.

It depends on the hour you arrive and how much luggage you are carrying.
You could walk down Gran Via to the Arenal bridge, then cross the road into Bidebarrieta street and the first street on your right is Jardines. I´d say that would be 15-20 minutes max.

If you prefer, you can jump on the metro right in Moyua until Casco Viejo (that´s two stops, Moyua-Abando-Casco Viejo). Go out through the front, not the San Nicolas exit. Once in the Unamuno square, turn to your right and walk all along Sombrereria, Victor and then Jardines. 3, 4 minutes max ???

With such an early flight, the best option is to get a taxi. Ask at your hotel to book it for you.

I was also fascinated by the transporter bridge -- the Puente Colgate, aka Vizcaya Bridge, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site just outside Bilbao proper in Getxo. I'd never seen a bridge like that before!
