We have been on the Santana tandem tour - starts on the island of Elba and then across Tuscany. This was the first time Santana had organized a trip in Italy, and so it had some kinks that needed to be worked out. It is not inexpensive. Places we stayed were great.

Much of the trip was planned by Andy Hampsten and his wife who now live in Tuscany. Andy is a retired bike racer(only 30-ish!) -- winner of Giro d'Italia and a stage of the Tour d'France. His wife is a professional gourmet-food person (once owned a restaurant in Colorado). Thus, all of the meals (exquisite, multi-course, paired with terrific wines) were planned by her at fabulous restaurants/private places, etc. Many of the roads traveled were picked by Andy -- scenic, not many cars, etc., though Tuscany is hilly!

I believe Santana (can get their website thru a search) is planning another Italy tour for sometime in the near future. I would recommend, however, that you do a search for Andy Hampsten (hope I'm spelling that right!) bc he and his wife have also formed an Italian bike touring company -- I would very, very highly recommend doing touring with them -- they are a lovely, caring, awesome, etc.!!! couple who know their stuff.

Why the heck would you bookmark a nearly 13 yo thread?? That was topped by a spammer . . .
If bilboburgler had simply triangled it and not told us all that he had done so, the thread would have sunk to oblivion. (Note to trianglers . . . it isn't necessary to post -- that just keeps the thread at the top of the thread list. Triangle the moderators and be done w/ it)

I don't understand, either, why people can't just bookmark a site without telling the whole world they did so. I get a Fodors rss feed, and when I see a new topic or new response to an older one that interested me, I open it. If I see that the new content is "Bookmarked", I think, "Who cares what you bookmark?"
There's maybe somewhat more of a justification for saying "Triangled". Maybe it saves other people from doing likewise. Do they consider the number of triangles in the decision to tank a post or is one sufficient?
