Big mens clothing stores in Hungary

Hi all and a quick greeting from Canada,

I will be in Budapest for a few days in December. I plan to do some shopping and am looking for stores catering to "big mens clothing". Are there any folks out there who can give me some suggestions? Also, just curious if anyone has had any experience purchasing Geox shoes in Hungary - are the prices cheaper than neighbouring Austria?

Thanks in advance L

I looked at Geox the last time I was there and it was comparable to the rest of western europe. There is an outlet mall outside of Budapest that might have deals...I will look for a Big Man's Store for you online....

While Budapest offers great value for money in many things, I never found it particularly good for bargains in clothing. You can get cheap stuff easily enough, but of fairly poor quality. If you want even medium quality, prices are comparable with much of western Europe. I think that means more expensive than Canada.

I was in budapest at the weekend and I passed by a big mans store - but I don't remember the name but I remember where it was and I will look it up and post the street later.

They had MASSIVE mens shoes in the window.

I echo Padraig's comments. You will find cheaper stuff than we get here in Canada but likely at poorer quality. However, depending what you're looking for and it's purpose - that might not matter much.

I always pay a visit to the small mens Marks and Spencer store on the Vaci Utca since we no longer have M&S here in Canada. They do have some stuff for big men, and though I don't consider myself in that category, I've come away with suits from their Italian tailored line and cotton dress shirts (thicker better quality cotton, French cuffs, european spread collar, etc.) if you're looking for these kind of things, at comparable or lower prices than I'd pay in Canada, and good or better quality.

I've noticed Geox shoes in stores around M&S but didn't check out the prices. Given the VU area, might be a bit pricier than in the suburbs.

Thanks for all your help. Lawchick - any insight on the location of the store would be appreciated. In regard to Marks and Sparks, I sure miss them here. I will check out the store on the Vaci as I am looking for european styling. I was in Vienna recently and have found that the styles were very similar (albeit the prices in Vienna were incredibly expensive in comparison) to what is now available in Montreal and Toronto especially in Holts and Harry Rosen...however buying them here doesn't bring back all the good memories of buying overseas.

Once again thanks and thank you Fodors for being a conduit to a great wealth of knowledge.

Cheers L

There is another M&S (and dozens of other clothing outlets) in the West End Shopping Centre, which is adjacent to Nyugati railway station, which is on the Grand Boulevard, Terez korut section.

Thanks Padraig. Great tip. The location of the mall is excellent as well - right next to the train station. It has been awhile since I have been to Budapest so it is interesting to see the commercial development.

Shop was on the Dohány utca.

Dohány u. 46. (shoes from size 47 to 53).

Here is a link with a map.

However, I would imagine that the clothes won't be great - or cheap. They will be in or around the same price as Austria.
