bicycling in Norway
My husband and I are visiting friends in Olso in May. We'll be there for two weeks and would like to go for a short (2 - 4 day) bike tour. We're considering taking our own road bikes with us. Are there good riding tours that start out in Oslo? Or, do we need to travel somewhere else with our bikes and do a tour? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks! GG

I would recommend doing the Telemark canal bike trip.

Did it some years ago and scenery was splendid, a miniature of Norway. We did something called the Big canal trip, but on our own and not part of a package.

Remember taking the canal boat from Skien early morning getting off at Lunde and continued along the canal to Kilen, spending the night in a cabin at Kilen feriesenter. Next day we biked past Kviteseid to Vrådal spending one night there, the road up from Kviteseid was steep but had nice view. The best day was the last one from Vrådal to Dalen mostly on gravel roads/farm roads, top scenery ending at Dalen Hotel having a good dinner and resting at the end of the day. Vent on bus next day, returning to Oslo. If the canal boat haven’t started running it’s not far from Lunde to the train station at Bø.

Just to clarify. Taking the bus back to Oslo, we first biked 4 km to Åmot and took the direct bus to Oslo from there. We did the trip opposit way, normal would be to start at Dalen ending at Lunde, Ulefoss or Skien.
The canal boat start running May 19th, but only weekends from Lunde to Dalen in May/June.

Ask your friends to check this site www.slf.no - Bikers Ass. Not in English, that's why I thought your friends could help. The BA have lots of info and can recommend several trips, also sells maps specially for bikers.
