Beziers France

My husband and I are planning a trip to the south of france for late March/early April. We have found a cottage that we want to book outside of Beziers, in a small rural town. We both like the intimacy of small town travelling, although we do plan to take day trips, or overnights to some of the bigger spots, like Nice.

Trouble is, I can't find much info at all on restaurants, etc. in these more rural areas. Does anyone have any advice on the more discreet areas of the Languedoc region?

foodislove, one of the regulars here on Fodor's has a website devoted to Languedoc. He may see this thread and add a few helpful comments, but in the meantime, here's a link to his site:

www.the-languedoc-page.com

You might also pick up a copy of the Michelin Green Guide for Languedoc-Rousillon, which provides lots of touring suggestions for the region. You can also see Michelin's restaurant recommendations at www.viamichelin.com, although you may have to register to see that part of the site.

We spent a week in Agde a few years ago and drove through Béziers many times, but less by choice than necessity. It's not an area that I fell in love with, although it will work as a base for excellent day trips.

Is the place you're considering in Béziers itself or in a small town outside?

Hi

I've got local restaurant reviews here : http://www.the-languedoc-page.com/to...estaurants.htm

I also have a local forum you are welcome to use.

Bon voyage

We stayed in Bezier for a few nights back several years ago. I'm sorry I don't have any good restaurant recommendations. I just wanted to mention that we went to Pezanas for an afternoon and very much liked it. The Languedoc is a really interesting area. There is a beautiful National Park if you like hiking, biking or canoeing. The drive through the park is quite scenic. The town of Minerve is worth the detour.

A nice overnight would be the coastal town of Colliure.

Enjoy your holiday.
