BEWILDERED ABOUT THE TYRRHENENIAN COAST

Jump to last reply

Wife and I plan a visit to Italy in May. Already booked 2 weeks in Calitri, where we spent a week last May. Loved it so much that we are returning again but this time with no car - bus from Naples airport to Calitri via Avellino. Plan to "live like the locals" as much as possible: taking local buses to nearby villages and I'm even taking some Italian lessons. Then we plan to take the bus back to Naples and pick up a car for another week. Thinking about the Tyrrhenenian Coast, from Castellabate to Maratea. Have found several wonderful villas near the water or in the hills with great views of the water. We know that it will be too cold for swimming (last week in May). Hope to use this as a base for just haging out and day trips (1-2 hours drives). Know little about the region so looking for help from Fodor experts. thinking of Castellabate, Pisciotta, Palinuro or Maratea as a base. Area too developed with tourism?

Thanks
