Beware of Ryan Air
For any of you planning on flying Ryan Air -- beware that your must check in and print your boarding pass before you enter the airport. If you go to the airport without a boarding pass you will be charged 45 Euros for each boarding pass.
Last week i received an email to check in on line. Since I only had my cell phone I could not print a boarding pass and it did not provide an opportunity to display one electronically. I figured I would just print it at the airport. It was a 90 Euro mistake.
Don't get ripped off like I did!

Ryan Air makes it very clear that you will be charged if you don't print out your boarding pass ahead of time. Xouldn't your hotel peint it out for you? Or you could go to a public intsrnet cafe.

I thought people generally knew Ryanair charges separate fees for a lot of things, and if you decide to book with them, you have to read the disclosures. Their schedule of fees does, in fact, state that fee and they warn you about it in the terms which you must agree to when buying a ticket.
It's why they can keep the regular fare low, it all adds up one way or another, I guess. But you do have to pay attention if you decide to go that route. So it is a good warning to others not to just assume things about airlines you aren't familiar with and you should read their terms. I think people who book that way have to make sure they are at home, or in a hotel with a printer, or near a cybercafe. IN fact, I've flown several budget airlines in Europe and used those methods to print my passes.

Seems mrt cannot read.
Couldn't read info on ryanair's site, on ryanair sent emails, and seems he cannot read the answers we wrote on the thread he chose some days ago to post about his trouble.
I'm not a fan of Ryanair but it is entirely somebody's fault if one doesn't read the condition of his purchase.

You need to carry electronics of some kind these days. If your flight gets delayed and you are on one of these low cost airlines, the only way you will get any info or be able to rebook is via your electronic device. That's why they are low cost. I was delayed for 6 hours once (weather) and the only info I got were emails from Ryanair with updates. Same when I got delayed on Easyjet with diversion to Amsterdam due to tech issue on the way to Copenhagen. I received updates on the replacement aircraft and expected time of arrival etc. Without a phone I would have no info at all. They have no desks, no staff at the airports. If you get an email telling you to check in online, you ignore it at your own risk. Although Ryanair have kiosks at some airports, I'm unsure if you can use them for check-in or printing a BP.

I've done quite a bit of research on Ryan Air since I may need to book a flight with them this summer. I have found that most of the complaints are by those who have not bothered to read the rules. They clearly state that it will cost you if they have to print your boarding pass. I really don't have much sympathy for those who don't bother reading the rules/ regulations then find themselves having to pay extra and end up complaining about it.

I see it both ways.
If you read a lot on travel forums, you know you should look at all details with Ryan air.
If you never booked with them before, and have perhaps used only airlines that let you check in online, but casually go ahead and check you in at the desk if you have not checked in online, you would not think about that maybe some airlines take online check in so seriously.
It is easy for new travelers, or even experienced ones, to take something they thought they knew for granted.
With Ryanair, for sure, the devil is in the details, i.e. Fine print, extra info., etc.

We flew RyanAir as it offered the only non stop flight between our two cities. I was dreading it. However, it was on time, no problems at all. We paid a little extra to choose our seats and board early. Hotel printed boarding passes for us. I would definitely use them again.

I'm a little confused about this. I do about Ryan Air and their rules but what's the verdict on this: can one or can one not use one's phone to check in?

Maybe an old school cell phone?
I only flew once on Ryanair, a long time ago (2002?) I was with a friend and the flight attendant came with the drink cart and my friend ordered champagne.. it was 50 euros! Afterwards we looked at the menu card and there it was.. split of Champagne, 50 euros. Oops!
Not sure if they are still charging that price now but I always look at them menu card on ANY airline after that experience.

Ryan Air is well known for charging extra for everything except breathing. This has been all over travel boards for 15 years at least. That's the only way they can work with those tiny rates they offer.

The Ryan Air operates with totally different business model from most other airlines. Those who assume it is just a low cost version of legacy airlines get burnt. In the areas outside what is required by regulations, the company has redefined the operating procedure to extract maximum revenue. The company bet there is much money to be made out of those who cannot comply with the minutia of T&C and they have been right. Also, they have found a way to get paid for flying into underused airports instead of having to pay to use the airport. Many people assume all the charges to be "reasonable". RA has identified the limit of imposing financial burdened without totally alienating people so they continue to fly. They provide certain products, but they are not for everybody.

The contract states that you cannot bring any fish, game or wildlife trophies in your baggage. Maybe Mr Ryan confiscates them and displays his fishing prowess to his neighbors?
