Paris-Amsterdam by high-speed Thalys train in 3h10, www.thalys.com from €35
Amsterdam-Vienna: Book the 20:05 Cologne-Vienna sleeper train arriving 08:48 from €39 in couchette (basic flat sleeping bunk with rug and pillow) or from €69 with bed in a proper 2-bed sleeper at the Austrian Railways website www.oebb.at then add an Amsterdam to Cologne connection (there's one at 16:34 arriving 19:12) at www.bahn.de/en from €19.
Vienna-Milan: Book the direct sleeper train at www.oebb.at from €39 in couchette or from €69 with bed in a proper 2-bed sleeper. Departs Vienna 19:30, arrives Milan 09:30.
Milan-Paris or Paris-Milan book a TGV - there are 3 direct ones daily - at www.tgv-europe.com from €29 each way.

I love trains, especially SOME European night services BUT I would go to www.skyscanner.net or www.whichbudget.com to check the prices and timings of budget AIR travel between Amsterdam-Vienna and Vienna-Milan

I suppose you have your reasons for this 4 city trip. If you want to use low cost flights, check also the following airports:
Eindhoven, Maastricht, Weeze, Dusseldorf (for Amsterdam)
Bratislava (for Vienna)
Bergamo Orio al Serio, Lugano (for Milan)
Beauvais (for Paris)
Low cost airlines operating between the 4 areas you want to visit:

<< Which city to start first >>
It depends on where you're coming from.
I would take trains between locations as most of them are not far apart from each other. Trains terminate in city centers and are easier and less expensive to get to hotels from train stations then from airports.

Trains for sure if just going to big cities where cars are more and more a liability. Check out these fine sties to help plan your European rail adventure - www.seat61.com (Man in Seat 61 who posted above, his commercial site; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
Try Amsterdam
Paris
Munich
Vienna
Venice
Florence
Rome
if you have time for all those - 3 days in each is about nice.

I am flying out from Singapore and planning about 18 to 20 days long. I have covered most of France cities previously but love to return back to Paris. Amsterdam and Vienna are the must go cities for this trip. For Italy, we are thinking of Rome, Pisa and maybe Milan if we have time.
Any recommendation of hotels or BB? No need expensive type but I just need a bathroom in the room.
