Best wat to travel from Venice airport to hotel

Our flight arrives in Venice at 11am and we're wondering what's the easiest travel means to get from the airport to Hotel Casa Verardo Residenza d'Epoca? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ciao ... Dorm

You said the "best way" and then you said the "easiest way."

IMO the very "easiest way is to reserve a private water taxi AND spring for that "meet and greet" service.

With certain types of the latter they will meet you at the end of the jetway or right after Immigration, load you and your luggage into a vehicle and drive you over to the boat dock, help you board the boat, etc.

That boat, of course, can often take you to a hotel's private landing point (provided your hotel has one).

That is the "easiest" way to do it.

I would take Airport Bus #5 from the curb in front of Marco Polo to Piazzale Roma then transfer to Line 1 Vaporetto to San Zaccaria Danieli Stop.

You can buy tickets at the transportation desks at Marco Polo (to your right as you exit Customs).

If you are staying in Venice for more than two days it may be worthwhile to buy a vaporetto pass.

Exactly how would you expect a taxi or Uber with wheels to get you to a hotel in Venice?

You can only take a taxi from Marco Polo to Piazzale Roma in Venice.

After that, it is by foot or by boat.

Allilaguna is less expensive than a private water taxi and it's a nice way to arrive in Venice.

StCirq ... I asked a question. And others responded with specific actions to take which was beneficial.

I don't think you can blame StCirq when you ask a question that is notably illogical to anyone who had done just a few minutes research on the topic of Venice.

I, too, found it a bit disconcerting that the OP didn't know that Venice is a car-free city.

Dorm57, all questions are legitimate. Private water taxi is the only type of taxi in Venice. We have used it on two trips there because our plane landed early evening and we were exhausted after so many travel hours. We'll be going again soon, but will arrive by train early in the day, so the vaporetto will be just fine. You have 3 choices: private water taxi (about 120 Eu) or the Alilaguna or the bus to the vaporetto. The advice to check with your hotel is excellent. In some cases you might be better off with the vaporetto.

We have used the Alilaguna boats twice and have been very happy with them. Of course, you'll still have to walk to your hotel from the dock, which includes some bridges with steps.

The hotel's website says that you can take a private water taxi to San Zaccaria or Ponte della Canonica. I couldn't find Ponte della Canonica on Google maps, but San Zaccaria is the same stop that Alilaguna would take you to. You'd save some time with the expensive water taxi, but maybe not the walk.

Elmap29, thanks ... very helpful. This is our first trip to Italy; yes we've done research but we just can't think of everything.

HOW HEAVY ARE YOUR BAGS?

Getting ANYwhere in Venice is difficult the first time, and a snap the third time.

I will do a post on the two baggage checks in Venice one of the next few days. but in the meantime, consider parking your bags and finding your hotel without them. The cheap one of them is a bit hidden, looks like a place you wouldn't trust, and a great place to put your luggage till you get your sea legs and find your hotel. At 5E a day it can't be beat. It's at Piazzellita Roma where the bus drops you. Stand with your back to the water, back to the boats, back to the bridge. Across the street is a sort of strip mall that includes a carbineiri station (one kind of police here). Toward the left you will see an orange sign saying PULLMAN, or, with good eyesight, PULLMAN Bar (Bar meaning cafe in Italy). Head towards it, then keep going past it. When you are positive I have given you the wrong directions it will appear on your right. Disposivi baggaglio (except that's horribly bad Italian I'm afraid). Most of the men there don't speak English, but if you say bon joorno, and smile, they will be very nice.

Then you are free to find your hotel without dragging bags and so forth along. (You may decide to use a water taxi to get your bags.) Of course if you are an Olympian, go for it. I was afraid of the cost of a taxi, so I ended up leaving all but my smallest bag at the bag check and going back and forth to change out clothes. (I was also ill at the time...)

Big money saver -- 20 Euros buys a 24 hour boat pass. Otherwise it's 7.50 each time you get on one. I absolutely could not find a senior discount like they have in France.

Best advice I got about Venice was prepare to get lost and dont worry about it. Just enjoy yourselves and take in the beautiful buildings and water. THe rest is just details.

Best wishes

Here is the info from the ACTV site on passes. Note that it says 'from the moment of validation" which means 1 day is actually a full 24 hrs, 2 days 48 hrs, etc.

Time tickets are the most economic solution for anyone wanting to travel about Venice and its districts using ACTV travel means. They allow an unlimited number of trips and can be used on all transport means, both navigation and Mestre Urban Network (excluding trips to and from the Marco Polo Airport) and Lido buses involved in Venice Municipal area urban routes.
By paying €6.00 extra, on one-way trips, or €12.00 on return trips, all time tickets for tourists (1, 2, 3 and 7 days from the moment of validation) may be used on otherwise excluded bus routes/services starting and ending their journey at the Venice Marco Polo airport.
One piece of hand luggage is included in the cost. The sum of its three dimensions must not exceed 150 cm.

- 20,00 € - 1 DAY TICKET
- 30,00 € - 2 DAYS TICKET
- 40,00 € - 3 DAYS TICKET
- 60,00 € - 7 DAYS TICKET
