Best Walkabout GSM for Europe?

I would appreciate your suggestions for the best hand held gsm. I will be in Holland at the end of the month.

Hand held GSM - ie phone or handheld GPS ie satnav device?

Garmin do some good handheld GPS devices, but if you want it for navigating in town then most car GPS devices nowadays also work for bikes and walking. If you are going on long cross country walks then a small Garmin device is best.

If you meant a phone then any triabnd phone will work. You can buy a Sim card on arrival in NL at any of the many telecom shops around, at Dixons or even, I believe, at Hema.

Thank you hetismij. I went shopping here in Michigan. My local stores have Garmin and others, but only with USA maps. I guess I will continue to have fun getting lost and found with a map and compass.

Some GPS came with both US and Europe maps loaded. Others you can almost always buy another memory card with the European maps. Not cheap, however.

hopscotch, we had to order our Garmin 670 online because we couldn't find it in local stores. I purchased it on ebay and we are extremely pleased with the model. Deborah

MAp and compass works for me! Always fun getting lost when you are not risking your life doing so. Not sure i would attempt going to far off the eaten track without a GPS in some parts of the US but in Holland you are fairly safe.
Hope you have a good trip!
