Best waffles and frites in Waterloo
As the title suggests, I will be in Belgium and I wanting to know a good place for waffles and fries in Waterloo. It does not have to be the same place.
Waterloo.
Not Brussles. Not Bruges. Not Liege. Not Antwerp. Waterloo.
Well, I might consider Brussels since it's close but I would really, <b>REALLY</b> prefer Waterloo + 5km.

I spent a year in Waterloo one day. Not to be utterly facetious, I took the proper bus from Brussels (but there is a train that's half the time of the bus ride)..told my wife I'd be back in a few hours...From where the bus stopped in Braine, had to take a cab ride to get to the fields..took in the battlefield and it's pyramid-like Butte di Lion and meandered about...I took a taxi back to the bus stop, but it was a Sunday bus schedule and there wasn't any transportation back into Brussels for nearly two hours. Those were the pre-cell-phone days....so poor wife had to cool her heels waiting for the man who never showed up..until much later than planned.
Must admit, being a student of Euro history mainly for my writing pursuits, I enjoyed just being at the Waterloo fields (caught a glimpse of Marshal Ney on horseback,who loked pretty good for his age).
In the town of Braine I did find a little cafe across from the Brussels bus stop that offered very tasty waffles and fries...but I don't recall the name. Be sure to check any bus or train schedules in the vicinity closer than I did...(the bus ride was quite scenic, going through villages and forests with upscale country homes along the way).

Thanks for the information, tower. I will look for that cafe.
We're only going to be in Waterloo long enough to see the battlefield and Butte di Lion and the next morning we will be headed back to Germany.

What would constitute a 'good place'?
What kind of waffles? ie. Brussels waffles, Liege waffles, or stroopwafel?
Fries with or without mayonnaise? If with mayonnaise, homemade or do you prefer Calve or Remia brand?

Sounds like you have a multitude of suggestions based on the questions. I had no idea there were so many choices in the Waterloo area. Lay 'em on me -- my body is ready!

Waffles and fries are basically what I would call street food and fast food. Neither is haute cuisine.
If I am in Belgium and want a waffle what I do is simply look for the street vendor with the longest line at lunch time.
Or you can go to a restaurant and they'll dress them up for more money and put them on a plate. A question of authentic or tourist money maker.
'Guafres' (waffles) are for eating on the street.
For fries, look for the busiest 'friterie'. Again, this is fast food, not fine dining. What you should try is a 'mitraillette'.

No offense, dulciusexasperis but you didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I am looking for specific places to go, as in places that a Fodorite has been and would recommend to fellow travelers as tower was kind enough to do.

Well, if you are willing to travel over to La Hulpe (an easy drive from Waterloo and a charming small town), the bistro at the Folon Fondation on the grounds of the Chateau de la Hulpe has good waffles (and crepes). They're pretty easy to do, you should be able to find them almost anywhere and there won't (or shouldn't be) a huge difference in quality.

Closer to Waterloo, in fact on the Chaussee de Waterloo, a straight shot down from Waterloo, is Jacos in Uccle. We used to go there all the time. It's a neighbourhood joint. They had good frites and gaufres when we were there last, but it's been a while, so don't know if they still do.

Stroopwafels can be found in the Netherlands AND in Belgium but yes they originated in the Netherlands.
Besides, Brussels, Liege and stroopwafels there are many other local recipes.
