We will be in Cannes for a few days in June. Then we will be going to Milan. What will be the best mode of transportation? We would like to take the train, but from what i understand, it seems complicated with numerous stops & train changes. This will be our first trip to Europe so we are not familiar with train travel. Also, "we" includes our 11 year old daughter. What about driving?
Thanks for any information!

Driving would incur a large drop off fee if you return the car in a different country. Perhaps, train to Nice and fly to Milan, either Malpensa or Linate airports. If you're neading back to France to drop off car at the end, there is no problem. Train travel involves several changes.
According to bahn.com there is a train leaving Cannes at 8.43 arriving Milan 14.55 with one change at Ventimiglia. Seems quite straightforward.
Go to bahn.de.
Input the journey.
There are several one-change options a day, taking in total 5.5 hrs. It's almost certainly impossible to do the journey any faster by plane, even if there are direct flights from Nice - which I doubt.
