Best Town Square

Hey fellow Fodorites,

Just wanted to give you a heads up. The website TheBrooklynNomad.com is performing a survey asking people what is the best town square in the world? They started with 50 and are now down to 10. You can vote here: http://polldaddy.com/p/1646364

Right now Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square is in the lead! That is a shocker!

It is beating out Krakow's Rynek Glowny, Prague's Old Town Square and others from Brussels, Rome, Moscow, Seville, San Francisco and more.

I voted for Rynek Glowny. Such a beautiful town square in the heart of Krakow.

What is your fav town square?

Louisburg Square, Boston's Beacon Hill...I would have to choose Red Square as the most dramatic, though. I voted for it.

1 - Rynek Główny, Krakow
2 - Staroměstské náměstí, Prague
3 - San Marco, Venice
4 - Piazza della Signoria, Florence (for the history)
5 - Buza Bar (sure it's not a square, but it's outside, has great views and you can drink wine)

IMO nothing can be as exquisite as St Mark's Square in Venice - nothing! And i think i've seen all major town squares in Europe and in the rest of the world there are few town squares as pleasing as those all over Europe.

take NY's Times Square - really a dump, even after many reinvigorating efforts - compared to any main town square in Europe.

HI; St Mark's Square -beautiful. Few town squares as pleasing as those all over Europe. Certainly agree with that. But comparing NY Times Square to 'any main town square in Europe, is a streach. Skyscrapers to old world buildings. In my opinion, I think not. As for as being a 'dump', I don't see it that way. Perhaps in the 1980's. I must say, Rudy did a great job of cleaning up the 'Square'. It's wall to wall people, neon sighs, traffic, all kinds of stores and many people may not like it, but not a 'dump'. Dick

St. Marks...the "drawing room of Europe" for sure and after dark, unlike some of the others, absolutely magical.

Ah, St. Mark's. Also, besides Krakow, which is lovely, I like the square in Gdansk. And Warsaw is lovely but small.
