Best town for 3 nights on the Costa Brava?

Hi folks, We are nailing down our itinerary for 15 nights in Northern Spain. After leaving Barcelona and before embarking on a drive along the Pyrenees to San Sebastian, we are thinking of 3 nights somewhere on The Costa Brava. What town is everyones favorite for charm, central location for day trips and general beach merriment. DH is big boater and would love to rent a boat for a little day trip exploring the nooks and crannies as well.
Thank you for your help again and again…
Kim

@robert2533 I looked at the link you sent. Lovely that may certainly do the trick. I have already sent several emails enquiring about available rooms. Thank you!

Maybe you could look at Llafranc as an alternative.
Not an upmarket resort but good selection of bars and restaurants, with the beach on the doorstep. Nice coastal walk to Calella nearby.

Llafranc is nice, but not if you are looking at doing a little sightseeing. It's more of a destination then a base for touring. Our favorite place on the Costa Brava is the Hostal de La Gavina in S'Agaró. Nothing in the area compares (www.lagavina.com).

OK, if the OP is into 5 Star, then Llafranc cannot compete.
However, I would not agree that it does not offer opportunities for exploring the area; in the few days we spent there, we visited Pals, Peratellada (by car), Tamariu and Begur (on foot).
Plus there is the option of following the coast northward by boat to D'Aiguafreda.

Of course, Cadaques. This is the only town which is right in the center of the Costa Brava. A most beautiful town (might be the most beautiful "white town" in Spain) with a significant boat and fishing harbour. Here is a nice three star hotel:

Cadaques is a great place to stay in but is far from being at the centre of the Costa Brava - it's the most easterly town along the coast and is accessible to the rest of the area by a twisting mountain road. Probably the least suited town to use as a base for touring.

Thank you everyone we booked a lovely looking hotel in Begur. I don't think we can go wrong with any spot along that beautiful coast!

Begur, is my absolute favourite. Great base for visiting other towns and the town square has some fabulous restaurants for a fab evening meal. Hotel aguiclara is a fav and a new small hotel has also opened we liked the look of I think it was called Petit convent.. We are going back this summer for the 4 th year in a row. Lovely costal walks too!

Cadaques is nice but I really wouldn't say it's centrally located .

Oh you are so in for a treat. Eat at the hotel too, it's fabulous.
When are you going ( some restaurants are closed on Monday/ Tuesday nights)
Go early to snag a table at Platillos it's tiny and gets booked out, or book it when you get there for another night.

@smeagol Oh I'm so excited! We are there 24-27 June a Wednesday - Friday night! I tried to book their apartment but it was booked for our nights. I got a quad for my sister and her family and a double with terrace for my DH and myself. Can't wait......

Perfect, the hotel do a great evening on a Thursday in their restuarant, traditional flamenco music, great night to book a table.....( we'll probably do the same again this year, I'll check it's still on on let you know ( we go early June) you are going during the busier time, so am not sure how busy Begur will be but I suspect many more restaurants will be open than when we normally go in May.
Some of the beaches just a short drive away are gorgeous and there are some stunning costal walks.
Also not very far away in Pubol is the former home of Dali's wife , it's now open to the public and has some "interesting" decor. That's about a 20 min drive from Begur.
