Best time of day to get tickets to the Anne Frank Haus?

We would like to buy tickets online prior to the trip. I've heard that it is best to go closet to closer time due to it being less crowded. Thoughts?

We got tickets for first thing in the morning. By the time we left there was quite a line up, but we were ahead of the crowds.

As long as you buy them on line ahead of time you'll do great. I did so, setting my time at 1:15 p.m. and walked right in -- there was a 3-4 hour line every time I walked by there on my visit to Amsterdam 10 days ago.

You ring the bell to the left of the entrance and get buzzed right in.

As others have stated, just go online before your trip and prebuy your tickets. There is even a place you can check off if you plan to buy a Museumkaart once you're there to pay for the admission- I think we paid 1.5 euros or something similar to make just the reservation (worth every penny). You select what time you want from what is available: we booked for 9:30 on an October morning and the crowds were already lining up when we arrived @9:15; we sailed right past them to the designated entrance for prebooked tickets, showed our Museumkaarts and the proof of reservation and they let us right in even though it wasn't yet 9:30. I felt very sorry for all the people waiting in the very long line by the time we left.
Btw, buying a Museumkaart is extremely smart if you plan to visit more than just a few museums. We paid @50-something euros for each pass, good for an entire year at just about every museum in the country (and admission to the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, etc.runs 15 euro per admission- so you can see how the card pays for itself very quickly).
