Best Tapas Bars in Barcelona

I’m going to Barcelona next month, and I’m really keen to try out the best Tapas bars in Barcelona. Any recommendations?

I am in Barcelona right now. While I'm not a tapas eater, I've come to the conclusion that of the myriad of tapas bars, the ones who provide the menu only in pictures are geared towards the tourist masses.

Hopefully a local can provide more concrete advice. Barcelona is a very large city, so it would be helpful to know which area you'll be based in. Di

Off the top of my head:
In El Born,
-Euskal Etxea (Basque pintxos)
-El Xampanyet (likely to be packed at any given time, but worth the try!)
-Bar del Pla (a bit more upscale but excellent)
Also, though not a tapas place, I'm sure you'll enjoy Enrique Tomás, a jamón-centric shop selling, of course, packaged jamón but also jamón sandwiches and other things. Check out the virutas cones. If you are looking for a "break" from tapas and the like, La Taguara, nearby, sells delicious, and cheap, Venezuelan arepas.

Jai-ca in Barceloneta (not the modern one next door): calamari and navajas a la plancha

In Poble Sec, Casa de Tapes Cañota and in l'Eixample Tapas 24 - both a bit more upmarket.

Check out Ferran Adria. It is a innovative and avant garge culinary kitchen. Their watermelon sangria is amazing! Reservations have to be made way in advance, so be sure to book your place early. http://www.yelp.com/biz/tickets-bar-barcelona

Also check out Cal Pep, one of the most famous tapas restaurants in Barcelona. Everything is fresh and fun – you have to go there at least once, if not you don’t know what tapas are! http://www.calpep.com

If you are looking for more suggestions and a local’s input on the most authentic tapas bars, try a tapas tour by Mekomy – I went on it on my last trip to Barcelona, and it was delightful!

My favorite tapas bars are Cal Pep in the El Born neighborhood and less well known among tourists, the excellent Paco Meralgo in the Eixample neighborhood.

Here is a post that covers the best in the Barcelona;

Cal Pep in El Born District has been mentioned, it's excellent, get in line 15-20 min before opening to get a seat at the bar (but insist on making your own choices from the menu, I can highly recommend all the fish and seafood tapas, the wonderful tortilla and the fabulous butifarra sausage, but some of the fried stuff is not that interesting), and close by Tapeo was our great food find on the last trip to Barcelona in March. The Coca de Sardina tapa was exceptional, but everything here was great. And possible to make a reservation. http://www.tapeoborn.cat/
The Coca de Sardina: http://www.tapeoborn.cat/tapas-menu/...ardina-en.html

And famous Xampanyet is just across the street from Tapeo.

The Poble Sec district has got a very local feel and excellent tapas bars scene. http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/wv3/...to-bodega.html

And top notch Bodega 1900 is close by: http://www.yelp.no/biz/bodega-1900-barcelona

Across the street from Bodega 1900, you'll find Tickets with tapas from heaven, but you'll have to book 60 days in advance at midnight Barcelona time to get a table. Ten min after midnight normally all tables are gone. Very affordable for what you get, and now ranked among the 50 best restaurants in the world: http://www.theworlds50best.com/list/...inners/Tickets

Thanks to suggestions from people on Fodors, we had lunch at Cerveceria Catalana, Carrer de Mallorca, 236. Excellent! If you go for lunch, get there early. If not, there's a hefty wait to get in.

We really enjoyed Bar Celta Pulperia, which was near our apartment in Barri Gotic, on Carrer Simo Oller and Carrer de la Merce. We also enjoyed many listed above.

I should have added with my suggestion that this is place is Alitalia grittier and "real" the places mentioned above but had good fresh food with great service. Always packed on weekend evenings.
