Best place to go for around New Years?
Hi, Anyone know what the best city/country to visit around the Christmas/New Year's time? Any suggestion will be appreciated. I was interested in doing a multi-country train excursion, but I'm afraid it might be too cold. Thanks,
Kurt

I found Rome to be very fun on New Year's Eve...and on NYDay, you can probably go hear the Pope speak at the Vatican...a very unique, once-in-a-lifetime (for me) experience. But then, I just love Rome. BTW, if it were me, I wouldn't care about the cold. Just go!

Thanks Sheila..I never considered Scotland (I'm part Scottish too!)
Sara--Italy is where I'm gravitating to, but I wanted to go there when the weather was more hospitable. I will start some searched for deals. Thanks alot!

Another vote for Scotland. Last year, I spent in Edinburgh at "Murrayfield" rugby ground where they have a fabulous conference suite. They have a super Ceilidah (is that how its spelt)the men and women dress in their best regalia and really celebrate new year - and you get haggis and neeps thrown in.

Not sure about Scotland in winter but Hoogemany (sp?) New Years Eve is no double Europe's best New Years Eve extravaganza. I was in Edinburgh one November and it got dark about 3pm - not the winter clime for me but i'd go just for New Years Eve.

Not that I am biased (cough, cough) but Scotland. Hogmanay baby! It's truly wonderful. If you cannot do Edinburgh there's always an island with the closest, intimate locked in experience that is hard to beat...especially if there are only a bar or two on the island itself. It will go on all night until daybreak or longer and the friendliness, camaraderie, singing and food is truly the best. I get to be 'hame' this year and there's nowhere does it like Scotland!
