Best Photography Spots in Rome?

I’m going to be in Rome in 2 weeks, and I am a photography enthusiast. Any advice on less known but beautiful spots in Rome that will make great photo spots?

Pretty much ALL of Rome is a photo op. At least the historic center. Go down almost any side street away from the major 'sites'. I try to concentrate on getting better angles, close-ups of architectural elements, fountains and statues, etc. and interesting lighting to make my photos different from the average snap shot.

Here's my Rome gallery - www.pbase.com/annforcier/rome

Some of these get plenty of tourists, others no, but all might be fun. Don't neglect Rome at night. If you haven't seen the movie Le Grande Bellezza, take a look before you go.

Quartier Coppedè
Portico d'Ottavia and the entire area of the ancient Jewish quarter
Passeggiata del Pincio
via Margutta
Centrale Montemartini
Palazzo Doria Pamphilj
Gran Caffe la Caffeteria
Caffe Greco
The lobby of the Hotel Forum and its top floor bar
The Stravinskij Bar at the Hotel de Russie

I will recommend the Trastevere neighbourhood http://trastevereroma.com/en/
It is a beautiful neighbourhood that combines world class gardening with classy architecture, and is especially enchanting early in the morning.

Check out Aventine Hill in the early evening for the best sunset picture opportunity in Rome.

If you are not on a tight budget, you may want to consider photography tours. I went on a street photography tour by Marco. Marco is the guide behind the Humans of Rome, and he is giving tours through the website called Mekomy.

I have observed that the best time to shoot photos in Florence is very early in the morning, before crowds get up. Florence at 7am or earlier has a charm that is lost by 10am; I guess it is the same thing in Rome. I remember a time I was sleeping at an hotel near St. Peter's and I had the occasion to visit the cathedral even before having breakfast (it opens at 7am, I believe). You would not guess how enchanting it was to visit it without the crowds, apart from an occasional group of nuns.
