Best mountain visit near Luzern Switzerland
I'll be travelling to Switzerland in early August. I'm planning a trip up to the Klein Matterhorn (including ice palace) while in Zermatt, but was wondering which mountain day-trips from Luzern were considered good. I think the Jungfraujoch could be too far with 2 hour train journey each way to Interlaken + journey up the mountain (I know Junfraujoch is currently being recommended on a similar thread).
Currently, I am thinking the Stanserhorn, but am aware there are a number of other mountains in the area including Pilatus and Rigi. I'm interested in scenery and maybe snow if it is there, but I'm not interested in doing long walks or hikes. As stated earlier, I'll be seeing an ice palace and snow in Zermatt, so it's not so important for this journey.
I have a Swiss Flexi Pass which now entitles the holder to 50% off many of the mountain journeys.

Considering that you will also go to the Klein Matterhorn I recommend the Pilatus trip. Do it as a round trip - boat Luzern - Alpnachstad, funicular up to Mt. Pilatus, gondola down to Kriens, bus back to Luzern.
I prefer the views from Pilatus over the Rigi views. Only if you would want to do some hiking I would suggest the Rigi.
Have been on the Stanserhorn and was not so much impressed. It is again good for hiking (via Wirzweli).
Titlis/Engelberg is another option, but it is similar to Klein Matterhorn (High Alps with glaciers) and by far not as impressive.

As a second thought, since you have a Pass, why not take an early morning boat trip on the lake till the end and change boat and end-up at Mt. Pilatus and then take a cable car from the other side of the mountain towards Luzern?

The return from Kriens is via trolley. There's nothing similar and pretty cheap.
I would vote for Pilatus for today's choices. The travel modes is the best, using the boat, cogwheel train, telepherique, and finally the trolley. It's a real bargain.
