Best Montalcino wine experience

Jump to last reply

My mom and I will be in Tuscany in May and are planning to spend a day in Montalcino. I've been researching wineries to visit and can't seem to decide on where we should spend our day - there are too many fabulous options!

Does anyone on the forum have any must-see favorites in Montalcino? Castello Banfi seems to have mixed reviews, but the grounds look gorgeous and the lunch delicious. We've read it's a very "California style" vineyard, which we aren't opposed to. We want a place to sample the wines, wander the grounds and generally relax with stunning views. As a reference, we will be spending a day in Greve in Chianti at Castello Verranzzano (smaller, family-run), so I'm thinking we could mix it up in Montalcino by spending time at the larger Castello Banfi and possibly another smaller winery or enoteca in the town.

We will be driving there so we'll have the full day to drink and explore. (So if you have other must-sees in Montalcino, please pass them on!) Thanks in advance for your help!
