Depends what exactly they are looking for in terms of "fun", but have a look at Sperlonga (south of Rome), Orbetello (north of Rome), Anzio & Nettuno (south of Rome), further north you could try Livorno (west of Florence), or even fly to Sardinia. I gather this is for Summer, in which case be aware that August in Italy means very crowded beaches/coast as this is when most Italians also take their Summer holidays. If travelling in August (or even late July) it's best to book accommodation as far ahead as possible.
