best hotel in venice 5 star
My husband and I will be in Venice for the first time in October. We have 3 nights before we board a cruise. I am considering the following hotels: Danielli, Gritti Palace and Bauer Il Palazzo. I want our first experience in Venice to be wonderful.
If you have stayed in any of these, please share your opinion.

I've stayed in none, but spending so much time in Venice to be considered a semi-Venetian, I know several locals who have close relationships to these hotels (having worked there, or having friends who work there and so on), and in their opinion, the Gritti is a class apart from the two others in every respect.

Keep in mind that the major difference between a 5-star and 4-star hotel in Italy is that the minimum size for a room in a 5-star hotel is 1 square meter (or about 10 square feet) larger. So don't count out some nice 4-star hotels in your search. And since the room size requirements are minimums, you might even get a larger room in a 4-star property than in a 5-star.

Paul's post above reminded me of a great 4-star hotel where I stayed twice 5 years ago, Foscari Palace in Cannaregio-East (closer to Rilalto). Their Gonzaga Suite is about 50 m2, one huge room, with 3 balconies (standing only), facing Grand Canal and the fish market. I posted a review then on TA. You can see the pictures of the room and of the view from it on the following URL.

Of course I might sound not too impartial as I am proud to be appointed as Deputy Director of Sales and Marketing for such an amazing property as Bauer Il Palazzo , therefore I will just let you know my email ( [email protected]). Feel free to contact me , should you need any further info ( about other The Bauers properties in Venice as well ) or just to receive our best offer . We'd love to do our best to grant you the most unforgettable stay in La Serenissima!

Ummm - ever heard that advertising is prohibited on this as well as other travel boards? Is the economy really that bad that even a famous hotel like Bauer has to resort to guerilla marketing on message boards?
