Best Hiking Options near Edinburgh
We are planning a 4 day trip to Edinburgh and would like to plan a full day for hiking in a scenic route.
Any advice on what would be the best one day excursion from Edinburgh for some breathtaking hiking. We are in our twenties and enjoy hiking. Would we be able to make it to Glen Afric?

If you're going to be in Edinburgh, Arthurs Seat is right there, can't miss it - great place to hike from what I've heard - but I've only seen it from the bottom myself! Hiking up and down the hilly streets is hard enough, but I'm assuming you're a lot more fit than me.

In Edinburgh there's the Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat, very scenic, not too challenging.
Half an hour outside the city, Lonely Planet recommends the Pentland Hills Circuit, a six hour, 12 mile hike with a couple of thousand feet of altitude gain. Haven't done it myself. Take a look at their "Walking in Scotland."

Going to Scotland for only one hike is like going to Italy for only one spoonful of gelato. When you return home you will lose sleep over what you missed, and what could have been...
That being said, Glen Affric is much too far to drive, do a hike justice, and return, all in one day.
Look into the Trossachs, even though you'll need more time to get to the more spectacular Scottish hikes.

With all the hundreds of great walks/hikes in scotland why did you specifically ask about Geln Affric. Have friends hiked there or ?? I ask because it is a very long way from Edinburgh - and even a fairly long ways from Inverness. It is not the most remote part of Scotland - but certainly not a daytrip from edinburgh.
There are fabulous hikes all over and some are very close to Edinburgh. Will you have a car or are you limited to place you can get to by train/bus?
If you won't have a car, then there are some wonderful walks/hikes very near Edinburgh.

I would suggest the Pentlands for proximity, the Eildon's for romance, the Fife Coastal Trail for seascapes and, if you want Munros, Ben Vorlich and Stob a Chron on south Loch Earn.
You can't really do Glen Affric in a day trip from Edinburgh.
