We will be in Scotland in August and I really want to visit cute, picturesque fishing villages with awesome seafood to eat. We are into photography, history, short walks and lovely scenery and finding quaint places off the beaten track. Are the villages around Fife good examples of fishing villages? We plan to travel at least up to Inverness and maybe as far up as Wick if time permits.

Since no place in Scotland is very far from the sea, you can find fresh seafood everywhere. It is not cheap anywhere, nor should it be as commercial fishing is a miserable and dangerous way of earning a living.
If you want quaint and fishing in the same town, you need to look for places that send out boats for the day or overnight, not for those with large commercial fleets. Unfortunately, I can't tell you any on the East Coast of Scotland.
Definitely not lookng for cheap seafood.... just GOOD seafood.
Oban has great seafood but isn't as pretty as some.

Has scallops fresh off the boat and is my favourite place in Scotland.
Thanks Dickie, will be definitely be going to Oban as we are going to the Isle of Mull. Have you been there? Is Mull picturesque?
For picturesque/chocolate box pretty -- Crail. For good seafood -- the nextdoor village Anstruther. Plus the boats to the Isle of May leave from Anstruther Harbor.

Goodness -- Crail looks lovely.
Sorry nearly forgot.
There is of course our little village but I constitute the only fishing industry around.
