Best digital camera batteries?
What are the best AA batteries for digital cameras? How long do they last?

Batteries I have used run out incredibly rapidly. I would rather not take rechargable on our trip because it is just something else to carry and it takes about 12 hours to recharge, but it is certainly better than bringing or buying fresh batteries for every day.

I havn't found any batteries that compare with rechargable for digital cameras. I just bought a charger at Radio Shack for $39 that doesn't require a converter for european currency (just the little plug thing) and recharges in 2 hours. At the cost of regular batteries you have paid yourself back in a week if you go through a set a day, which I do.

Definitely use lithium (says on the pack that they are for digital cameras). You can probably find them anywhere you buy normal batteries (I get them at Target) but also at camera shops. They cost about 3x more than regular batteries, but last more than 5x longer! I brought lost of extras, and NEVER had to change the batteries on my 10 day trip! The set I put in when I left is still in there now. I have found these to last much longer than my rechargeable ones - I don't even bother with my rechargeables anymore, even when I'm at home.
Kimberley

Hi,

I actually bought lithium rechargable batteries from rayovac and they have a rapid charger which charges in an hour. Got the setup at Walmart and used them in our digital when we just went to France and Italy. My husband used the camera non-stop to both look at the pictures and take them and we only had to recharge the batteries once towards the end of the trip. My kids love them for their walkmans as they only have to recharge once every couple weeks. I think I paid about 15-20 for the charger and the batteries were I think 8-10$ for a 4 pack.

This is an excellent question. I recently purchased a Sony Cybershot that will burn through regular AA batteries in less than 5 minutes - SERIOURSLY!

I bought NiHD 1700+ batteries at Walmart. They cost about $7 a set (I bought 3 sets) and claim they can be recharged at least a 1000 times. I also bought the 1 hour rapid charger ($29).

I can take over 500 pictures (more or less) now before having to change batteries. I find that usually I only need to swap out batteries every few days.

BTW, this was far cheaper than buying the Sony battery/charger ($100+).

Depending on the length of your trip, invest several sets of batteries, charge them, and just take the batteries. Otherwise you might have to take a charger. The great thing is, once you return, stick those rechargables in all the items around the house that use AAs (remotes, clocks, etc.) and continue to save money.
