Best day trip near Rome.. Ostia Antica, Tivoli, Naples and Pompeii?
I'm trying to figure out a a day trip to put into my visit Rome:
Ostia Antica, Tivoli, Naples and Pompeii ?
Which one and when is the best day to visit them? monday? etc?

Best for me might not be best for you.
Ostia Antica would be my first choice from Rome. It's easy, doesn't take long to get to, and is very very interesting.
Naples and Pompeii would be out of the question as a day trip, for me. Much too far and too much work, time and expense for a day trip.
Another choice might be Orvieto. Very easy to get to from Rome and an interesting small hilltop town.
Where else will you be in Italy.

based on my own experience, I would suggest ostia antica, tivoli [but not between November and March inclusive] and orvieto. I haven't done pompeii as a day trip from Rome, but given the time the train takes, then the need to get another train, and the time needed to tour Pompeii, i'd have to be VERY bored with Rome to do it.
Frascati is also very easy to get to by train but i haven't done it.
there is enough open in Rome on a Monday [the forums, the colosseum, the capitoline and vittorio emmanuale museums, endless churches] for you not to have to target Monday for a day-trip.

Orvieto closes up between 2-4pm so plan accordingly. >>
dutyfree - that may be so, but when we were there, it wasn't the case. the cathedral did close up for a couple of hours [but IMHO it's the outside that's the real treasure and you can see that any time] but the clock tower and the museums were open, and the tour of the excavations, though i have to say I wouldn't bother with it. [very hard to make etruscans boring, but they managed it].
