Best coastal town within 3 hours of Barcelona (with kids)

After Barcelona, we'll have three days in July to spend somewhere in Spain. We'll have kids (9, 7, 4) with us, and given the heat, a coastal town is appealing. Hoping to spend 3 hours in less in transit; train/bus strongly preferred over a rental car. Considering Cadaques and Sitges; Sitges looks easier to get to, but Cadaques seems more appealing. Is Cadaques the way to go, even though the train/bus looks a bit complicated? Or is there another area altogether we should consider? Thanks.

IMO, Caduques was lovely -- but I don't think it is particularly easy to reach.

Another option might be Tossa de Mar....

Have you consulted the Michelin Green Guide? You might find some great options there. And check rome2rio.com for transportation options.

Enjoy!

We love Roses which is 2 1/2 hours towards France. Lovely nice calm bay with nice sand, great for kids. Here is a photo

Argeles sur Mer France is great too and actually closer just over 2 hours according to google because you stay on the freeway longer.

Here is a photo: http://www.france-voyage.com/cities-...-mer-26151.htm

Again it has nice sand and areas of shallow calm water

The little town of Collioure is also worth visiting on the way up or back-no beach but a little artsy town made well known by Picasso and Braque and others.

Have fun-we love this area!

Sitges is quite nondescript really, not much in the way of scenery and the town isn't that appealing. It's not really a kids centre, although it has a nice beach and has become well known as a gay destination.

The area round the Bay of Roses is lovely and I'd also recommend Tossa de Mar or Lloret de Mar. Both of these places used to be very popular with young Brits, but they've settled down again and are really good. Tossa particularly has a lovely old town.

Lloret de Mar is like Blackpool on heat. Go there but expect plenty of people on binges, places selling paella and chips and other delights associated with popular resorts.
