Best city in Switzerland to visit?

Given 6 nights in switzerland, and assuming you're not a ski/sports type of person, in which city would you stay?

Vevey or Lausanne or possibley Morges, Cully or any of the small villages along Lake Geneva (but not Geneva itself nor Montreux). You can get up into the mountain areas easily from there, get into the vineyards, get to Gruyere, go see some old towns in Lausanne, the museums in Geneva, the Saturday wine market in Lausanne and best of all, just sit and take in the stuning stunning views of the lake with the snowy Alps in the background.

sorry, the Saturday wine market is in Vevey, and they have a lovely old town as well.

Choices:
1. Lake Lucerne (lot to move around - Lakes and mountain peaks and Passess)
2. Interlaken or Grindelwald (good geography with nearby mountain rides)
3. St. Moritz (decent for a break)

my vote goes to Vevey

(they only serve wine at the open air farmers market in the town square on Saturday mornings for 6 weeks in summer-time, called Marche Folklorique... i'm guessing that's what Cicerone refers to?).

If you expect answers that suit your own preferences, I think you have to specify what you want to do, and when (some areas are not easily accessable during certain seasons). If you want alpine scenery (you don't have to be a ski/sports person to enjoy the view) you would not necessarily want to go to the same place that you would go to visit museums; if you want German cuisine, you would not want to go where the cuisine is generally French, or Italian; if you want classical music you would not necessarily want to go where they have a jazz festival. So I would pick my destination based on what I wanted to do.

However, Switzerland is a fairly small country, so day tripping from anywhere to anywhere else is easily done.

Each city is charming in it's own way. I'd want to see them all haha... or at least 2 cities. They are SO close together that daytripping to anywhere in the country is possible.

Visit here:

http://switzerland.isyours.com/e/guide/roughguide.html

to see details on each city and also this is a good website:

http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/welcome.cfm

Have a look around... it might help your decision.

Also I have pictures from my recent trip to Interlaken/Lucern here:

Lol, I didn't see that Christ there at all... I was Shmucking my travel buddy who was coming out of the store haha.

I also have a picture of him standing under "Metro" sign by some subway and he has me standing under a "Horny" sign somewhere near Fussen.

thanks for the links, Tyler. Unfortunately, if I do travel to Europe, I would only be able to spend a few days in each country, so I'm trying to limit myself to the best city/region of each. Interlaken seems ver beautiful, and most reviews I've read support this. But, it seems more of a one-day trip, since the town is small and its main tourist attraction seems to be the endless opportunities for sports activities and views. Lucerne seems to offer this, albeit on a lesser scale, while also containing more traditional tourist sites, i.e. museums, architecture, restaurants, night-life, etc., etc. So, as of now, I'm inclined to visit Lucerne, stay there for six nights. I might take a day trip to Interlaken, however.

Between Lucerne and Interlaken - sure, Lucerne, not doubt, if you are not a sporty type. The only thing to do in Interlaken is the ice-cream or coffee at the Top of the Met for a view of Jungfrau on a nice day. Other then that, skip it.

You should also go to Zermatt--Das Matterhorn is breathtaking. However, I don't think you need to stay there for 6 nights. You can go to the Interlarken area or the Locarno/Lugano area before or after Zermatt.
