Best Caves to visit in the Loire

Looking for the most interesting caves to visit in the Loire area. Some are homes and others are stores. Any suggestions are welcome.

D., <BR>I have a print-out called, "The Worlds Longest (or maybe Biggest) Caves" of which a couple are in France. I can pass that on if you like but, as I recall, these are in the Pyrennes(?) Mountains (on the border with Spain). We 'so badly' wanted to go there but it is just to far out of our way. Let me know, O.K.?

Hi Dave- THOSE caves do sound very intersting. Since I'll be in Loire I am looking for the best Trogolite (sp?) <BR>along with mushroom caves. Trogolites still live in these caves and I thought it would be cool to see these folks and where the mushrooms grow. <BR> <BR>Actually my husband posted this new question as he thought my other one re: caves in Saumur area of Loire was not eye-catching. Scroll on and you'll see it (with proper spelling for these cave folk!)

Hi D. FuscoGerek <BR>Try the following 9I received the info in a newsletter today) <BR> <BR>The troglodyte city of Troo unveils a little of its mystery with the <BR>opening of two new sites : Les Cafforts-a network of underground refuges, <BR>and "la Cave aux Yuccas". <BR>http://www.vallee-du-loir.com/englis...ytes/index.htm <BR> <BR>I've also read about wonderful trog caves in SAUMUR - spoke to a real Frenchman a week ago - he recommends them as well. E-mail me if I can help with more detail. <BR>Lydia <BR>

Debbie- I'm calling my home answering machine to remind myself to bring in the book I bought last month in the Loire valley (man, I still relish being able to say that -- "why, just last month when I was in France"-- only another week or so of that particular phrase) about the caves of the Loire. It was one of the worst translated things ever, but has some good pix & descriptions. I'll bring it to work and write again to let you know what it has to offer. I think it's kind of a town-by-town description. By the way, we didn't really stop at any of the caves, I can't make any recommendations. One question, prompted by your comment above that these folks (the troglodites) actually live in the caves -- where else would you expect a troglodite to live?
