Best Beef Carpaccio in Paris?

Hi all,

We will be in Paris in a few weeks for our daughter's 13th birthday. When I asked her what she would like to eat for her birthday, her response was beef carpaccio. We will be staying in the 9th but will travel for the best option. Anyone have a recommendation for this?

Would she be willing to try boeuf tartare instead?

Try Alfio, at 43, Avenue de la Bourdonnais in the 7th, Mori Venice Bar (www.massimomori.net), at 2, rue du 4 Septembre in the 2nd, or Il Suppi (www.ilsuppli.com), at 2, rue de Condé in the 6th.

For an Italian dish, I would go to an Italian restaurant in Paris -- but never having been to one myself, I can't make any recommendations and I don't know if Italian restaurants in Paris typically have beef carpaccio on the menu year-round. Steak tartare is really quite a different dish -- the only similarity is the raw beef -- so anybody ordering it expecting to get close to beef carpaccio should adjust their expecations.

When a friend's daughter celebrated her birthday in Italy, I asked in advance what her favorite "celebration" dinner would be, and the answer came back "sushi" -- and I did manage to find a credible place (and didn't try to see her on crudo instead).

Robert and I were posting at the same time, but I just did a quick look at the menus of the Italian places to which he linked, and unless my French is worse than ever, I didn't see carpaccio of beef, but I was unable to find a menu for Alfio online.

But here is a menu for a place called Casa Luca, which features several different "carpaccio di manzi", including the one most people are familiar with (served with arugla and parmigiano shavings, olive oil)

https://www.facebook.com/casalucapar...type=1&theater

Have absolutely NO IDEA if the food is any good. Maybe you can track down reviews or ask around. Address is 82 av. Marceau, near Etoile in the 8th.

Hi

Carpaccio is relatively common in Paris. There was on chain that offered it 'a volonté' (all you can eat).

I specifically liked the carpaccio I had there, close to Cluny thermes
Cafe Bouillu Ecole médecine 6e
I lije tjis restaurant.

I have had other carpaccios but didn't note them..

Happy birthday to your daughter.

Yes, all very Italian!

If you check out the menu at Il Suppi, you'll see: Carpaccio de bœuf, roquette et parmesan - 14.00€

Mori Venice Bar also has it listed on its menu.

Thank you everybody for the replies.

Robert-
Thank you for the recommendations. ilsuppli indeed does have carpaccio of beef on the menu, made exactly as my daughter loves it. The restaurant gets great reviews on TA and it looks elegant as well. I think this will be the place for us. Thank you so much!

Bistro Romain was a very popular chain for decades throughout France. Unfortunately (?) is was purchased about 10 years ago by the Hippopotamus steakhouse chain, which converted most of the restaurants to its own brand. Today, there is just one Bistro Romain left in Paris in the Saint Lazare area, but it has excellent all-you-can-eat carpaccio.

Here is the full menu: http://www.bistroromain.fr/_pdf/Carte_Bistro_Romain.pdf

That was bistro Romain I had in mind, thanks Ker !
Hippo is not good at all.... imho. I prefer McDo (that is telling).

I had 8 or 9 'refills' of carpaccio on a bistro Romain with a good friend of mine, some ... er ... years ago.

Glad that worked out for you! It might be my eyesight that is going faster than my French.

There used to be a Bistro Romain in the neighborhood I usually stay in Montparnasse, it was there about 25 years and just this summer I noticed it was gone. I forget what took it's place, some other kind of bar/restaurant, but not Hippopotamus, something slicker (called Le Montaigne). I don't think it has been gone 10 years, time sure flies, there are still Yelp reviews on it from just a couple years ago, though.

There is a very good Italian restaurant near there, though, that I have eaten in and it's very nice. Auberge de Venise. It's nicer than Bistro Romain was in terms of ambience, so might be nice for a birthday. They do have beef carpaccio. http://www.aubergedevenise.fr/ People may dress up a little but you just need to look decent.

I've only been to the one in Montparnasse, but it appears they have one on the Right Bank in the Bastille area that would work well.

Yes, a lot of the Bistro Romain locations were just sold off since many of them were very close to a pre-existing Hippo restaurant so another one was not needed.

Just returned from our trip and wanted to report back to Robert 2533-Thank you, thank you!
Il Suppli was outstanding food in an oh so charming restaurant, with a fantastic waitstaff and the chef's cake (I specially ordered one) was out of this world. Prices were completely reasonable for Paris. I wouldn't have changed a thing. Thank you again-my daughter had a wonderful birthday celebration and had two plates of carpaccio (one for her appetizer and one for her entree)!
Even our French friends were so excited that they finally found the authentic suppli they had been looking for since their last visit to Rome and already made it clear that they will be returning and often!
