Hi, we have just one night in Warsaw and we'd like to pick a hotel/B&B in the best area for walking to the main places of interest. We are travelling with our kids in their 20's so would be nice to be in the centre with most nightlife, shops, restaurants etc . Is it best to stay in the old town or closer to the station or any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I would stay in old town but there are few hotels there; you could try the Castle Inn. The area around the station is very ugly.
You say you want to walk to the main places of interest but you don't say what those sights are. Warsaw is very spread out. If you want your hotel to be near your sightseeing you need to reveal something about your plans. No one has any idea of what you want to see.
You have 2 criteria - to be near restaurants and nightlife and to be near the sights that interest you. Which is more important to you. The more information you give, the easier it is to help you.
To be honest I'm not really sure what we want to see. The time is so short that we really just want to get a feel of the place by walking around. I am sure we will be returning to Warsaw again in the future. I didn't realize it was so spread out and imagined there was a main centre where restaurants/bars coincided with monuments/squares. We will keep away from the station area!
Thanks for the Castle Inn tip adrienne- I am making an enquiry. It looks fun and right for us.

There is in old town but not all sights are in that area. You asked for walking to the main places of interest and I interpreted that to mean sightseeing.
Much of Warsaw is modern or Communist-era buildings and not what I would call pretty.
Old Town is not the hot spot that the main squares in Wroclaw or Krakow are. I was in Poland at the end of September/beginning of October and the weather was still mild at night and I didn't see a lot going on in Warsaw old town.
You might also like to look around the Royal Route area. I remember crossing through this area in the day and there was a lot of activity.
If you have time I suggest the Warsaw Uprising Museum. You can get there by tram or bus but since there are several people in your party a taxi would be best. There's an old fashioned cafe inside the museum for a coffee and pastry.
The ticketing process is a bit confusing because you buy the tickets in a small building adjacent to the museum. When you buy your ticket you need to request a ticket for the short film.

Thanks Adrienne, just saw that the museum is open on Mondays which is a rarity. I hope we have time.
We have booked the Castle Inn as you suggested. Since we will be heading for Krakow on Tuesday I will find something near the old main square there too. There seem to be a lot more options.
Thanks!
