Going to Rome in May. I have been perusing this site for a while and still cannot answer one question. Hotels I can find, but which area is best for us. We like to walk to everywhere including the ruins, but We very much want to be right where the night life is!!!I am sensing Campo de fiori. Maybe Delle Torre Argentina, Santa Chiara or tiziano.
Best area to stay in Rome

Forget all you here, I am in Rome from the states.----- YOu must stay by the Spanish Steps. Period. Tyr the Holtel D'Inghelterra on Bocca de Leone. Ask for Claudio tell him you want a quiet room.
Call now for a better rate. They are great and much less than De la Ville and Hassler.
I will never stay in any other are now. I feel safe, central, and great each day that I cohes wisely. The other spots seem gross unless you spend $1,000 a night. YOu must expect to pay at least 200-nt. to do Rome comfortably and safely, unless you are quite used to trashy consitions, peeling paint, noise, less than perfect bathrooms, etc. Depends on your standards back home. Also try Hotel de Borgogni.
Let me knwo at my e-mail address if you need more help. I went thru what you are now for a few months! Ugly process if you have not been here.
