Best 1 Day Bike Tour in Amsterdam

We will be in Amsterdam in September- suggestions on day trips/tours. We love bike riding, which is why we are so excited to go to Amsterdam!

Best biking experiences are definitely not in the city, but in the countryside. The area just north of Amsterdam is ideal: dedicated bicycle paths, green, some tiny villages (like Ransdorp), small towns (Monnickendam and Edam, but avoid Volendam for all the tour groups!).

Yep. Waterland (that is the area to the north of Amsterdam that tonfromleiden is talking about.

A ride I also like can be had by taking a train to Santpoort Zuid, renting bikes at the station to explore the Kennemerduinen, just off the North Sea Coast. Bloemendaal and its ultra hip beach restaurants are near, Santpoort has a medieval ruin (Brederode, open to visitors)) and a number of local and attractive places for lunch or coffee. The landscape is interesting and varied and the whole area can be seen in a day.

Come to think of it, if you find good bikes to rent in Amsterdam you can take them on the train to Santpoort, but you have to buy a ticket for them (6.10 euros, valid all day, for all travel, in addition to your train ticket)

Amsterdam is definitely a biking city. If you want to go on a bike trip hassle free in Amsterdam or in the countryside, I would advise you to join a tour. These tours are NOT crowded with people. I went on and I was just together with my companion.

There's one thing about biking in Amsterdam: there is MASS BIKE TRAFFIC. And people don't pootle about either. So a tour out of the city gets you more enjoyment perhaps than biking around within Amsterdam.

Ditto ditto ditto the nay-sayers. If you take your eyes off the bike path to see anything you could end up in an ambulance. Walk Amsterdam. Bike elsewhere.

You could take a train to Haarlem, rent bikes at the station and head west to the North Sea and Bloemendaal aan Zee, then north into the Kennemerduinen. It's a national park, and it's pretty awesome. Check Google Maps.
The first time I was there with husband, and we got lost and accidentally found the Brederode castle ruins. Second time I was solo and spent time on the beach, too, near Parnassia aan Zee.
