Berner Oberland - Mild winter, early spring

I've been watching the webcams throughout the region since I'm heading there in late May. Gimmelwald is at the same elevation as Murren and Wengen and there hasn't been day-long snow on the ground in weeks:

The snowpack on the mountains around the town looks below normal for late March. Frankly, it's what I would expect from June, not March! Springs snows are always a possibility, but right now it looks like the folks planning April or early May visits to the region may have more hiking options than expected.

Of course, the higher elevations such as Maennlichen still have plenty of snow:

We were in Switzerland in early December (Engadine) and didn't get a flake of snow.

We're headed back in May, and not expecting much then either, but we're happy either way - we're all season hikers.

I pity the skiers though.

Maybe no snow, but you have to worry about mud when hiking the most popular trails, like Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg.

FYI, they've had snow on the ground the last two days (April 18 & 19) in Gimmelwald and probably Murren and Wengen.
