Berlin's Love Parade Tragedy - Ten Killed, More Injured

10 killed in mass panic at Germany's Love Parade - World news ...
German police say that 10 people were killed and 15 others injured when mass panic broke out in a tunnel at the Love Parade.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38393697...d_news-europe/

It was with great sadness i heard about this on MSNBC - i always admired the Love Parade idea even though the Love Fest is much different than the original one with just a VW Beatle playing Techno Music

anyway my heart goes out to folks killed at such a festive and hopeful event.

Happened in Duisburg (North Rhine Westfalia), not in Berlin.

I jumped at the news release heading - i thought they had moved it to other regional cities after some problems in Berlin - thanks for correction.

18 dead, dozens injured. Dr. Motte tells it like it is. They were out to maximize profits and didn't care much for safety. There was just ONE entrance/exit, accessable only through a tunnel. First entrance controls took place only after everybody had to pass through that tunnel.

It's very hard to believe, that the TÜV has given its o.k. to this setting and politicians were not bribed to override any objections. Another tragic accident in the banana republic of Germany.

The whole plan for that event was sheer madness. On the other hand, the panic was caused by some fools who would not listen when told to turn around because the area was full and closed and absolutely had to climb over the walls and fences to get in, and then fell off from a height of 8-9 metres. Alcohol and drugs and juvenile idiocy have to be added to the factors that caused the tragedy. For those who read German, spiegel.de has some more details: http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/0,1518,708340,00.html

There is probably plenty of blame to go around.
But imagine sending your teens or young adults off to a music festival and having them not come home. Such a tragedy.

The NYtimes article today said most were trampeled to death - of the 19 killed - in a single 600= foot-long tunnel that the article said was the only access to the Love Parade area - some abandoned freight rail lines - and when officials decided there were already too many folks inside the told folks entering at the festival side of the tunnel to turn around and go back and this with folks on the other end trying to get in caused a panic when squishing began... definitely Dusiburg officials were negligent and caused this - do not blame it 'some fools who would not listen' - unless the NYTimes article is simply wrong.

Anyway the Duisburg organizer said this would be the last Love Parade.

The Love Parade tragedy is definitely something that could have been avoided only if the organizers were keen on their crowd control plans/ strategies. This event has been going on for several years and so far the event has been running without a hitch.

What went wrong this year? Is it the change of venue? Or was the crowd rowdier than the previous years? At any rate, whatever change implemented, this should not have happened. Memorials are now being offered to those who died. Germany and other countries are in mourning because of lives lost. What’s sad is that these people went to the Love Parade to show their love for music and for life. It is such an unfortunate event!

I, with my team at PeopleBrowsr have come up with a similar report representing sentiments of the general public on different issues, topics and interests. Visit http://www.peoplebrowsr.com/?option=...specialreports for more information.

Let's face the facts, folks. Most of the participants were stoned. Many of the participants were homosexuals who just loved pressing themselves against each other. Tragedy, sure, but best of all, the Love Parade has been cancelled forever! No more moths flying around that open flame (Dr Mothe (moth) started the nonsense in 1989 to protest the Berlin wall).

treunorth is an unabashed bigot - <Many of the participants were homosexuals who just loved pressing themselves against each other>

Bull crap - either that are there are millions of gays in Germany aged 15-30 - just an absurd charge that tells a lot about truenorth - yes this is a troll but still to say something like that.

So what if many of the participants were stoned - another hypothetical with no substantiation but truenorth's expectations that anyone going to this hugely popular event must be stones - but so what - then the city officials should have been especially vigilant on not allowing crowding in that tunnel - the sole drain into and out of the festival field.

City officials are to blame for these deaths (or whoever was in charge of safety planning) - and heads should roll.

But to blame stoners and gays is just beyond awful

happy trolling truenorth

Well palenQ, we know what the Q stands for now, don't we?
Yes, homosexuals caused the panic. Read some of the reports.
You think stoners are ok. Well you are a piece of work. Back under your rock with your ilk, please.
