Berlin Snooze: Celeb Knut Put on Diet

Much has been writ about the Berlin Zoo's Knut, a polar bear cub who is quickly becoming a bear - a too big bear and zoo staff is now putting the still cuddly celebrity on a diet.

8 months old, Knut now weighs 132 pounds and is more and more resembling a sloth - so the diet starts. Zoo officials figure if the cub were in the wild then a few extra pounds may come in handy to survive the winter, but no good for a zoo-bound bear.

"Knut's four daily meals will be slashed to three, and extras like croissants will need to be dropped", the zoo veterinarian said.

Knut of course was a cute bear cub that was scheduled to be put to death by the zoo i think until animal right protestors made such a clamor that he was saved - he has gone on to become one of Berlin's most famous celebrities - zoo attendance is said to have doubled since his arrival on the celebrity stage in March, 2007.
