Berlin or Budapest?
I am a young solo female traveler, and planning on a trip in July. This will be my third time visiting Europe but my first alone. I have almost two weeks and I definitely want to visit Prague, but I'm not sure if Budapest or Berlin would be a better fit for the rest of the trip. My other concerns are safety and ease of getting around, since I'm really on a budget and would prefer walking as much as possible.

Thanks, and honestly I'm not sure. I just realized I had the time for this trip so I'm trying to book flights/trains and hostels/hotels before they get more expensive or sold out. I do love architecture, and one of the pleasures for me is just walking around; I like visiting castles, churches, libraries, gardens. I plan on visiting an art museum and hopefully going to a concert or other performance.

Berlin IME has much much more to see and do than Budapest, which has a lot but after a few days..... Berlin is so multi-faceted you could spend weeks... Berlin's Museum Island is loaded with world-class art museums.
Berlin to me hands down.

I have not been to Berlin. However I visited Budapest about 6 years ago with my daughter and we loved the city. Great architecture, you can see everything by foot- Find a book which has walking tours. The parliament building is also worth a visit. We spent so much time walking around the city we actually never found time to get into the museums (and I love museums). Highly recommend taking a tour to the communist sculpture park about 40 minutes outside Budapest. The only drawback we found then was that other than in the stores, no one spoke any English. As 2 women alone we had no trouble whatsoever but we didn't go out at night (bars are not our thing)

I love Budapest, have visited four times and would be happy to go back. Can't comment on Berlin as I'm visiting for the first time this year. Public transport is good in Budapest, looks good in Berlin. However, sparkchaser was just pointing out on another thread the likelihood of rail strikes in Germany this summer, which makes Budapest more attractive.

Haven't been to Berlin but I visited Budapest as a solo female and loved it. I stayed at BudaB&B (http://www.budabab.com/). I think the price has gone up but it was only 25 euro/night a few years ago. Run by two American men, one of whom wrote the Frommers guide to Budapest.
Budapest is interesting, photogenic and very easy to get around by public transportation - great tram and one of first undergrounds in Europe. I was there for 7 days and didn't get bored.

Although I love Budapest in your situation I think Berlin has much more to offer and is probably more accessible for a solo traveler. (Have been to both several times - Berlin seems more a youth culture.)
