Berlin / Cologne / Rothenburg / Neuschwanstein

Hi,

In addition to the main attractions in Berlin, I wish to see
Cologne Cathedral, Rothenburg old town, Neuschwanstein Castle before going to Prague
Pls advise how the route should be. All comments are welcome.

Berlin->Cologne->Rothenburg->Neuschwanstein->Prague->Vienna->Budapest ??

30/11 - Arrive Berlin
Prague
Vienna
15/12 - Departs Budapest

You have 14 days on the ground. You want to visit 7 destinations.

How do you plan to get around?

It's doable but it's going to be painful.

You really need to reexamine where you want to go.

by the time you deduct the 3 days to get from one day to another (really 6 1/2 days for travel with cities) you have 7 places in 11 days - so one day each in Koln, Rothenburg and Neuschwanstein and 2 days each in Berln, Prague, Vienna and Budapest.

While this is physically possible you are obviously giving very short shrift to every place on you list - esp considering this will be late fall with short, grey days and chilly weather (no sightseeing until 9 pm as in the summer).

Assume you will travel via train - but have you looked up schedules to see how long it will take to get from one place to another. You rally need to go to bahn.de - the german rail site, which has schedules for all over europe, and map out the ties and which trains to take. To maximize sightseeing opportunities you should either take early am trains (7am?) or evening trains (8 pm or later) so you lose as little sightseeing tie as possible.

IMHO you should stick to 4 cities at the most to actually have a chance to see quite a few sights - but it's your trip. But at least look at schedules and have a travel plan in place.

But I still think you will end up with a very expensive, exhausting and frustrating exercise which will become just a blue even before you return home.

Sorry can't be more specific but since you haven't told us anything about your intersts it hard to design a better trip for YOU.

For train info check www.bahn.de/en for fares and possible discounted tickets if you book early enough to get them. If you want to hop any train anytime once there look into the German Railpass which I believe now extends to Prague (not sure). Or check on a Eurail Select Saverpass if wanting first class at will travel in all those countries.

For lots of info on Germanand central European trains check www.seat61.com - great info on discounted tickets; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

nytraveler has given sage advice!

Berlin->Cologne->Rothenburg->Neuschwanstein->Prague->Vienna->Budapest ??>

Like others say too much in too little time - I'd drop Prague and non-German destinations as your plate is full with just your German things - Berlin for example needs more than a few days as there are so so many things of interest there.
