Bergen/Norway in a Nutshell /Oslo

Jump to last reply

Some questions relative to Norway:

Assuming I go with the roundtrip from Bergen Norway in a Nutshell, does the train back from Myrdal take the same route as I would take to Oslo, if I use the Bergen Railway, Bergen to Oslo upon leaving Bergen? In other words, would I repeat about 2 hours or so of the same rail line? If this is correct, is this the scenic part? (versus the Myrdal to Oslo portion). Some have said it would be a waste of time, but it is billed as the most beautiful rail journey in the world, so how bad can that be?

I know one can do a long day, Bergen to Oslo NIN, but I believe it arrives in Oslo after 10 PM. And I'm not crazy about using a porter service OR dragging my luggage around on all these crowded conveyances. So I am considering whether to just repeat two scenic hours, arrive in Oslo at 2:30 in the afternoon and get our bearings and/or do some sightseeing that first day (only planning on two nights there). It might also improve our chances of getting good weather on one of the two days on the Bergen Rail.

Finally, are there other half day/ day tours of fjords NOT covered on the Nutshell Tour? We will have two full days in Bergen and might be able to squeeze in one more excursion in addition to the in town attractions. I would appreciate any suggestions for short trips (not overnights).

If I've got my facts wrong, please correct me ! Thanks for any and all suggestions!
