Bellagio to Sorrento

Hi All.

Now that I have finalised my itinerary, I have a few specific questions. Firstly, we (DH, me and 6 yr old child) are travelling from Bellagio to Sorrento ... and I am considering the best way.

Option A - Flight
- Easyjet fly from Malpensa - Naples on the day we require.
flight is at 11.40 - arrives 13.05, and the cost is around €150
- Getting from Bellagio to Malpensa is fairly difficult, so the best for us is either
fly-to-lake shuttle at €105 or a taxi at €130 - takes roughly 2 hrs.
- from Naples, the Curreri bus goes from the airport to Sorrento for €30.

Cost - roughly €310 door to door
time - (allowing wait at airport) - roughly 8 hrs

Option B - train
- timing
ferry to Varenna (30 mins), train to Milano Centrale (1 hr), train to Naples (4hrs 20 mins), then Circumsuviana to Sorrento (45 mins) .... plus transfer times. Will make it roughly 8 hrs still

- cost
train (mini fare) is roughly the same as flying, but no expensive taxi from Bellagio as getting to Milano Centrale is much easier than Malpensa ..... BUT I am a bit unsure about getting the Circumsuviana to Sorrento with luggage and 6 yr old in tow ... so may need expensive taxi/transfer to Sorrento.

so - timing roughly the same. Costs probably roughly the same as well

What would you do?
Any other options I havent thought of?

seat61.com/italy most enjoyable for me in the past 5 minutes
ferry over to Varenna hop the train down cheaply. If you are in a hurry get off the train at Bergamo(BGY) and pick up a flight down.skyscanner.net I am a big train fan especially regional trains like a local cheapest way for me to travel around and see neat things I might miss if I fly.

Happy Travels!

Hi,

I would definitely choose option A. You have much more inconvenience and change of trains if you choose option B, believe me, it will tire you and your family out, as trains always do in Italy. If it roughly the same price (also if not), I would definitely choose to go to Naples by air from Milan. Besides inconvenience, you might miss a train if there is some small delay or do not hurry. Option A is a much safer bet, you just have to make sure that the taxi driver comes for you on time at Bellagio. Enjoy your trip. I was at Amalfi Coast last year, really beautiful, try and find a hotel in Sorrento facing the harbour, a real breath-taking view of the Vesuvius.

Here's the name of the person hub and I hired. Stefano says he will go anywhere in Italy. Don't know if his price would be comparable to what you've checked on so far. Sure would be convenient though, eh?

I have to ask---are you really sure you want to do this with a child in tow? Italy has so much to offer.

The railway station in Varenna is a good ten minute walk up a very steep hill on fairly uneven surfaces - not fun with a load of luggage.

>>>then Circumsuviana to Sorrento (45 mins) ..<<<

The actual travel time is 75 minutes.

You might also consider Milan Orio airport. It might be easier cheaper to reach from Bellagio. Trawelfly flies to Naples.
